In the sugarcane fields of the Dominican Republic, Makenya, a teenage girl from a batey community, faces a life-changing moment when an unexpected pregnancy forces her to confront a new reality. As her grandfather struggles to protect the legacy of generations of cane workers and her community faces an uncertain future, Makenya begins to understand the stories, wounds, and traditions that shape her identity. A poetic and deeply human portrait of family, ancestry, and the search for one’s place in a world shaped by history and change.
