Following the success of our first call for projects last winter, this new selection brings together a diverse range of projects reflecting the energy and ambition of the theatre sector across France and the UK. From translations and new productions to international performances and readings, these projects will contribute to bringing more French-language theatre to audiences across the UK.
Selected Projects
- Young Vic – Programming of La Distance by Tiago Rodrigues, presented in French with English surtitles
- A Play, A Pie and A Pint – Production and programming of the English version of Lune by Pamela Ghislain, following Cross Channel Theatre and ARTCENA’s commissioning of the translation by Katherine Mendelsohn in 2025.
- Felicity Davidson – English translation of Château en Suède by Françoise Sagan followed by a rehearsed reading in London
- Izzy Parriss Productions and Gallic Gang Productions – A reading of the English adaptation of Ce qu’il faut de nuit, followed by a post-show conversation with author Laurent Petitmangin.
- Gallic Gang Productions – Co-production and programming of Ionesco – Dinner at the Smiths at the Institut français d’Écosse, in Edinburgh.
Cross Channel Theatre is proud to support these projects and to play a part in bringing new voices, ideas and work from France to audiences throughout the UK.
Congratulations to all five selected organisations, and a warm thank you to everyone who took the time to submit a proposal. The range and quality of the applications made this a particularly strong selection, and we are grateful to all those who took part. This level of enthusiasm for French plays in the UK is truly heartening, and we are delighted to see this momentum building. Cross Channel Theatre is doing its utmost to rise to it, and our own development will mirror this growth. These first two open calls have already proven very promising, and we look forward to seeing this initiative continue to grow.
