Encounters: Giacometti

8 May 2025 to 24 May 2026
Arts

Alberto Giacometti was one of the most influential European sculptors of the 20th century. Living in Paris amid the Second World War, Giacometti was a witness of his time. His thin, elongated human sculptures conveyed a new way of seeing humanity after unutterable violence. His work tried to overcome domestic brutality and pain and comprehend collective trauma and memory.

For the first time, the Encounters: Giacometti exhibition will create a collective dialogue and present Giacometti’s sculptures alongside the work of three other contemporary artists: Huma Bhabha from May 2025, Mona Hatoum from September 2025 and Lynda Benglis from February 2026. This year-long series is organised in collaboration with the Fondation Giacometti (Paris).
