Join us for an evening with French author Emma Becker, discussing her novel La Maison (Flammarion, 2019), newly translated into English by Rhonda Carrier and published by Bedford Square Publishers on 26 March 2026.
Written following her time working in a Berlin brothel, La Maison offers a rare literary account of sex work from the inside. Blending personal experience with careful observation, Becker reflects on the daily realities of the brothel, the relationships between the women, and the shifting sense of self that emerges from this environment. Attentive to moments of routine as much as intensity, she explores questions of intimacy, power, and independence with clarity and nuance.
This conversation will be an opportunity to hear Becker discuss the origins of the book, its reception, and its journey into English.
The evening will conclude with a book signing. Copies will be available for purchase onsite with our partner bookshop, Librairie La Page.
« Un regard renouvelé, curieux, admiratif sur ces femmes fantasmes dont on ne parle pas ou peu et dont le mystère n’est pas près de s’estomper.»
