Nathacha Appanah is a Mauritian French author who comes from a traditional Indian family. She spent most of her teenage years in Mauritius before emigrating to France. She has won multiple awards for her novels and just received the prestigious Prix Femina for La Nuit au coeur (The Night in the Heart) which intertwines three stories of women who are victims of their partner’s violence. On the edge between strength and humility, Nathacha Appanah examines the unbearable enigma of marital femicide, when the dark night takes the place of love.
