This reading group is dedicated to Léonora Miano’s Stardust. Please note that the author won’t be present in person.
Léonora Miano was born in Cameroon and came to France in the 1990s to study literature. In 2013, she won the prestigious Prix Femina for La Saison de l’ombre (Season of the Shadow) which recounts the beginning of the slave trade.
She defends the Afropean identity at a time of globalisation, which could regenerate French culture through French-speaking literature.
Stardust is an unflinching look at the realities of racism, poverty, and exclusion in contemporary France, told through the eyes of a young Cameroonian mother navigating life on society’s edge.
