Revolution in Print: Posters of May ’68

23 - 31 May
Arts

In May 1968, a series of student protests in France escalated across the country into widespread unrest and a General Strike, shaking the establishment to the core. The social and intellectual impact of these protests is still felt across Europe today.

During the protests, a large number of posters were produced by studios such as the Atelier Populaire, a group of printmakers responding to the rolling protests in real time. These posters capture the energy and passion of the streets at this time, and constitute a vital moment in the history of design, as well as politics in France, Europe and beyond.

Despite being important historical objects, the posters of the Atelier Populaire have rarely been shown in London. TANK has partnered with Gerrish Fine Art, Mayfair, and Carl Williams Rare Books on a unique installation of these works in our gallery space.
