The Institut français du Royaume-Uni is proud to highlight the participation of acclaimed French authors Laurent Binet and Jean-Baptiste Andrea at the 2025 Edinburgh International Book Festival, held this summer from 9 to 24 August. A yearly celebration of international literature since 1983, the EIBF brings together illustrious and burgeoning authors, thinkers, and artists from around the world to engage with visitors through on-stage conversations, creative masterclasses, and think tanks.

On 19 August, Jean-Baptiste Andrea will appear in conversation with literary critic Nicole Abadee to discuss Watching Over Her, his bestselling Prix Goncourt-winning novel. Set against the backdrop of fascist Italy, this sweeping narrative tells the story of a passionate, forbidden romance between a destitute sculptor and a wealthy heiress. Andrea will reflect on the novel’s inspirations and its exploration of love, art, and vengeance.

On 19 August, Laurent Binet joins writer Chris Power to present his latest novel, Perspectives (translated by Sam Taylor, Harvill Secker, 2025). Winner of the Naissance d’une œuvre prize, this gripping literary whodunit is also a bold reimagining of history — blending narrative innovation with counterfactual intrigue to thrilling effect.
