On 22  February, French novelist David Diop will discuss his approach to literature and historical research. He is the acclaimed author of At Night All Blood is Black, a stunning account on a young Senegalese soldier’s descent into madness during the First World War, which won the International Booker Prize in 2021. His most recent book, Beyond the Door of No Return, is a gripping semi-historical imagining of the memories of a French naturalist in 18th-century Africa, translated by Sam Taylor and published in English by Farrar, Straus and Giroux.
