
In 1929, Georgian-born filmmaker Rouben Mamoulian directed this landmark early ‘talkie’, breaking new ground in visual and sonic experimentation. Applause tells the story of Kitty Darling (Helen Morgan), a fading burlesque star who tries to save her convent-educated daughter from following in her footsteps.
