Charlotte Gastaut
Born in Marseille on 7 April 1974, Charlotte Gastaut moved to Paris at the age of 18 to study at the ESAG, a school of graphic arts. After graduating, she worked for various newspapers, advertising agencies and trend offices.
Her first book, Les Trois arbres de la vie, written by Giorda and published by Albin Michel, appeared in 2001. In 2004, her encounter with editor Charlotte Moundlic at Flammarion marked a turning point in her career as an illustrator: Moundlic offered her a first project, which led to a close collaboration and a series of picture books including Le Grand voyage de Mademoiselle Prudence, Poucette and Peau d’âne, among others.
Over the years, Charlotte Gastaut has developed a distinctive decorative style, characterised by fluid, sensitive lines, rich patterns and highly expressive figures. In parallel, she has worked with other publishers such as Albin Michel and Amaterra, with whom she has created a number of intricate cut-out books. To date, she has illustrated more than fifty books, many of which have been translated into several languages.
For the past fifteen years, the agency Costume Trois Pièces has represented her for her work in advertising and visual communication. Through this, Charlotte has collaborated with clients including Fendi, Diptyque, L’Occitane, Van Cleef & Arpels, Godiva and Hermès.
In 2017, she launched her own line of illustrated silk scarves under the label Charlotte Gastaut Collections.
