Now in its third edition, the slam will focus on the challenges of gender-sensitive language in translation, exploring how humans and machines navigate questions of gender identity, stereotypes, and linguistic differences between German and French.
Two experienced literary translators, Rebecca DeWald and Jo Heinrich, will compete against machine translation systems like ChatGPT, expertly operated by Jason Sprague. After each round of texts, the audience will be invited to compare the results and vote for the most convincing translation.
The evening will be moderated by Christophe Fricker (University of Bristol) and was made possible thanks to the support of the Franco-German Cultural Fund.
