Hyundai Commission: Tarek Atoui, Tate Modern Exhibition

This year, the 11th commission supported by Hyundai Motor will be Tarek Atoui’s site-specific work for Tate Modern’s Turbine Hall. Tarek Atoui is an artist and composer based in Paris and celebrated for his innovative performances and installations that explore and challenge perceptions of sound. Drawing on his extensive research into music history, instrumentation and production, Atoui creates multisensory environments that blend music, technology, sculpture and performance. Central to his practice is the invention of intricately engineered instruments, made in collaboration with other artists, composers and makers, which double as sculptural objects.
