This gripping crime drama about a nineteen-year-old novice nun and an experienced but unruly detective manages to tell an unpredictable and captivating story while commentating on Romanian society. The film was premiered in the 2021 Venice festival and shot in the director’s hometown of Piatra Neamt in Northeastern Romania.

About the director

Aperti left Romania in 2001, having trained as a lawyer and went to New York to study film. He is now a film professor at Columbia and Miracle is his third feature which he also scripted.
