Mois de la Francophonie 2022

Espace immense, multilingue, espace de pollinisation, de créolisation, d’influences réciproques” (Leila Slimani), the Francophonie gathers 300 million French-speaking people around the world. Every year in March, they celebrate the French language they share and the cultural diversity they represent.

On this occasion, the Institut français du Royaume-Uni, the French Embassy, the Institut français d’Ecosse, the UK network of Alliances Françaises and the Francophone partners in the UK, dedicate the whole month to events and initiatives celebrating la langue de Molière, Maryse Condé et Léopold Sédar Senghor.

This year, festivities include the national finals of the Joutes Oratoires Lycéennes, a French debating competition for British pupils learning French in secondary schools, reading groups and discussions with authors Leïla Slimani and Fatima Daas.

To top it all off, Ciné Lumière will be showcasing Francophone short films as part of the Fête du Court-métrage, celebrating the words of French poet Andrée Chedid before each March screening. Don’t miss also exclusive screenings of Francophone feature films, including the critically acclaimed Cannes 2021 hit Aline, The Voice of Love, a re-imagined biopic of Céline Dion by French female director and actor Valérie Lemercier.
